Liesl Theron,
Executive Director 

ImageLiesl Theron is die stigter van die menseregte organisasie Gender DynamiX wat vrye uiting van geslagsidentiteit bevorder met die fokus op diegene wat transgender, transseksueel en geslags nie-konformerend is. As geslagsaktivis is sy ook aktief betrokke  by die georganiseerde “ LGBTI” sektor van Suid Afrika. Haar werk fokus op die oorvleueling en interaksie tussen individue se geslag, liggaam en Andersheid. Haar navorsing wat deel vorm van haar Honneursgraad aan die Universiteit van Kaapstad, ondersoek die stryd, ondersteuning en vorming van identiteit van naasbestaandes ( SOFFA’s) van transmense, en meer spesifiek in verband met verhoudings.

Sy is in 2007 as beurshouer geselekteer by die vierde jaarlikse Sekssualiteits Leierskapsontwikkeling Beurs van die African Regional Sexuality Resource Centre wat in Lagos, Nigeria gebaseer is, en wat ‘n navorsingsbers ingesluit het. Haar onderwerp: “(Un)Accessible Shelters For LGT People In Cape Town”  wat ook die uitvoerbaarheid van die daarstelling van skuiling vir hawelose transmense ondersoek, is in Desember 2007 voltooi en is deur die sentrum gekies vir publikasie. Die boek is in Ethiopië bekend gestel in 2010 gedurende die 4e Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights. Fanele, 'n imprimatur van Jacana media, het die boek gepubliseer met die titel: Tapestry of Human Sexuality in Africa.

Gender Dynamix het nou ook hulle eerste boek gepbubliseer, 'n versameling getiteld TRANS: Transgender Life Stories from South Africa. Liesl was in noue voeling met die ontwikkeling van die boek, vanaf die proses van onderhoude en konseptualisering tot die rol wat sy gespeel het in die fokusgroep. Sy het 'n hoofstuk bygedra met die titel The SOFFA perspective.

Robert Hamblin
Advocacy Manager & Deputy Director

ImageRobert Hamblin is ‘n stigterslid van Gender Dynamix en die eerste transpersoon om voorsitter van die organisasie se bestuurskomitee te word. Hy het in Maart 2010 bedank as voorsitter om hom voltyds aan transgender-aktivisme toe te wei en is tans die adjunkdirekteur en “advocacy”-bestuurder van die organisasie.

As transman het Robert Gender Dynamix al by heelparty nasionale en internasionale forums verteenwoordig.

Sy bekendheid as fotograaf plaas hom in ‘n unieke posisie om transgender-regte en normalisering van trans-sigbaarheid te bevorder. Hy is verbind daartoe om Gender Dynamix ‘n kragtige, ware Afrika-stem vir transgender-regte te maak.

Hy is getroud met ‘n feminis, erken dikwels dat hy ‘n pienk Boer is, woon in Kaapstad en glo dat die evolusie van gender-regte uiteindelik in genderlose identiteitsdokumente moet manifesteer.

Caroline Bowley,
Programmes Coordinator

ImageCaroline was born in Zambia. At birth she was classified as male and grew up and lived in the role of a male up until the age 37. Caroline had always felt at odds with her gender but did not know why. At 33, through the internet she discovered that she was transgendered and started to make contact with other transgendered people and at age 35 started to transition. Caroline had her Gender Reassignment surgery at 43 and now lives full time as a woman.

Caroline is now actively involved in developing training materials to be presented at universities and training institutions throughout South Africa. She has presented papers at an international level on both legal and human rights issues related to transgender people, for example the Global Arc of Justice conference in Los Angeles in March 2009.

Caroline is involved in various forums on issues around MSM and WSW with respect to transgender people‘s health needs and she is also actively representing transgender people within the HIV/AIDS sector. She presented at the SA AIDS 2009 MSM Satellite Conference in Durban, March 2009 and at the HIV/Aids ‘New prevention Strategies to Achieve the Millennium Goals … a Time for Courageous Conversations’ conference in Cape Town, November 2009.

Caroline is also actively involved in advocacy around the access to rights for transgender people and has represented Gender DynamiX at the World Congress against Homophobia and Transphobia in Paris, May 2009. She screened short stories about South African transgender people at a queer Film festival in Berlin in May 2009 raising awareness of the cultural and social issues African trans people face.

Caroline is the partnership representative at the Saatjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children (SBC) which includes work in the shelter sector and she is also the transgender representative on the Pride Shelter Trust board.

 

Tebogo Calvin Nkoana,

Ka ngwaga wa 2002 o ile a bitswa ke badimo mme a ya go thwasa bjale ka ngaka ya setso, abe a tswelela thwasong yeo ka ngwaga ona woo wa 2002 kgweding ya Letswe (September). Ka ngwaga wa 2005 Tebogo o ile a tswelela maremetloung (grade 12), mme ka ngwaga wa 2006 a ithwalela molekane aba a tshepisa lenyalo, banapa ba dula ka gotee, ebile kase sebaka ba itukisetsa tsa lenyalo la bona. Ka ngwaga wa 2008 mokgahlo wa GenderDynamix o ile wa thwalela mashomo motseng wa Kapa a napile a huduhela gona. Tebogo ga a na dihlong go bolela ka tseo a kopanego le tsona mola a bang transgender.

Charl Marais
Bookkeeper

Charl Marais is a Transman still in transition. He has been living and working full-time as a man for the last eighteen years. Charl qualified as a teacher in 1975 and in 1981 qualified as a journalist. He worked as a journalist for more than twenty years until bad health made full time work impossible. He is also co-editor of the book TRANS – Transgender Life Stories From South Africa. Currently he works as a Bookkeeper at Gender DynamiX and is also the editor of the monthly newsletter.

Charl has participated in various Gender DynamiX events, including the Body Map Workshop and the Strategic Planning Session in 2007.

Charl grew up on the Cape Flats, close to where the Gender DynamiX offices are. When not at work or online, Charl enjoys a good mystery or suspense novel while having soft music in the background. A bit of a homebody and somewhat of an introvert, Charl admits to becoming more sociable since attending the T-Junctions, the Gender DynamiX trans social group.
